This one-day event will present and debate the state-of-the-art on PVC cables - technical and environmental performance, regulatory framework, recycling technologies - and their beneficial properties. Particular attention will be given to hot topics such as Construction Projects Regulation, with selected country experts debating its impact on the PVC cable market in different EU countries. Among other topics, we will also delve into environmentally responsible innovation and stimulate the discussion around PVC cables with new ideas and approaches.

Participation in the conference is free of charge, but online registration is required.

    Dr Enrico Boccaleri received his degree in Chemistry cum laude in 1996, and Ph.D. in 2001, both from Torino University. At the end of the same year he became researcher in the field of Inorganic and Materials Chemistry at the Università del Piemonte Orientale—Faculty of Science, in Alessandria, and since April 2016 is Associate Professor at the Department of Science and Technological Innovation in the same Academy. His research interests are focused on the synthesis, characterization and functionalization of inorganic and organic/inorganic hybrid nano-structured materials and their use and application as functional materials and additives. In detail, his studies concern one-dimensional (layered inorganic materials, e.g. layered double hydroxides, or synthetic clays), two-dimensional (e.g. carbon nanotubes, CNTs) and three-dimensional (e.g. polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes, POSS).

    During his work, he has worked in collaboration with several institution, research centres and companies interested in basic and applied research and innovation.

    In 2009 he founded with other colleagues Nova Res, a company born as a spin-off of UPO University, focused on viable applications of innovative materials at the industrial scale.

    He is co-author of more than 60 research papers on international journals and of 6 industrial patents.

    Dr Alain Cavallero graduated in chemistry at the University of Louvain (Belgium) and pursued his PhD at the Nuclear Research Centre of Jülich (Germany), which he obtained in 1981.

    He joined Monsanto Chemicals Company where he held various positions from applied research to market development for various specialty products, including rubber chemicals and thermoplastic elastomers.

    After 20 years of industrial and commercial experience he joined the Brussels-based European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) where he managed several industry associations involved with Plastic Additives. Among them, the European Stabiliser Producers Association (ESPA) which he is now heading as Secretary General.

    Carlo Ciotti, engineer, is the President of the PVC Forum Italia. He lived all his working experience in the PVC value chain working for leading chemical industries, manufacturers of PVC resin.

    Carlo began his career as a Project and Process Manager and became Head of Research and Development and later Site Manager in EDC / VCM / PVC production plants. Prior to becoming President of PVC Forum Italia he continued his experience in the PVC industry as a SHE (Safety Health Environment) and Environmental Affairs Manager.

    He also worked in the field of PVC processing and in particular in compounding. Carlo represents the Italian PVC Forum in the European PVC Network.

    Roland Dewitt got his PhD in chemistry in 1984 at the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He started his career with Solvay as researcher in polyethylene catalysis, then as technical support for PE pipes. He has been in charge of the organisation of standardisation monitoring for the plastics sector of Solvay, being himself involved in a series of CEN and ISO standardisation committees, including the chair of CEN TC 249 on Plastics. Before he left Solvay in 2011, he had extended his standardisation activities to IEC committees on cables and fire hazard testing.

    He is now consultant for ECVM, the PVC sector of PlasticsEurope, covering standardisation matters related to fire safety and PVC products for construction, including low and medium voltage cables.

    Esther Hild received a degree in communications engineering in 2005 and a masters’ degree in electrical engineering in 2007 from the University of Applied Sciences Cologne.

    After working three years as a development engineer at one of the world’s leading lamp manufacturer, she started at the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association as a technical Manager for the German Cable makers Association.

    Since then she is strongly involved in the work on Construction products regulation for cables, environmental aspects on cables and communication cables.

    This includes the organisation and/or chairing of technical meetings and Standardisation Working Group meetings (national and international), the technical support service for member companies and the representation of member companies in discussions with German federal authorities.

    Zdenek Hruska holds an engineering diploma in Plastics Technology from the Prague Institute of Chemical technology and a PhD in Polymer Chemistry from IMC in Prague.

    Since joining Solvay in 1991 he held various management positions in Belgium, Germany, and France. In 2013 he moved in Brussels, first at Solvin and later at Inovyn as an Advocacy Manager.

    In January 2016 Zdenek joined the European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers (ECVM) as a Public Affairs Senior Manager.

    Yannick Le Tallec received a PHD Degree in Physics and Chemistry from the University of Lille Flandres Artois (France) in 1992.

    Since 2011, she is the Certification Director for Efectis France where she is responsible for certification activities and new developments for products and services certification.

    She has over 24 years experience in fire behaviour of materials and over 10 years in Certification (including CE marking). Her technical experience includes fire testing for construction products, transportation, toxicity of fire effluents, standardisation and certification processes.

    Yannick is president of the Group of Notified Bodies under the Construction Product Directive, convenor of TC127/WG7 and convenor of SH02/WG10 (Group of Notified Bodies under the CPD, dealing with cables). Previously, she was the Chair of SH02 (Horizontal Fire sector Group under the CPR) for six years.

    Jose Carlos Lorenzo Lopez was born in Vigo (Spain) in 1964. He received a M.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering in the Mechanics speciality from the Universidad of Vigo in 1988.

    He has been working in the manufacturing industry of electrical cables since 1986. He was Quality Manager and R&D Manager at the Conductores Eléctricos de Galicia S.A., Vigo, Spain. He was a Cable Manager in the Research and Development Department in Draka Cables Vigo (owned by the Dutch Multinational Draka), He was also General Manager with Sisnext Engineering.

    Now, he is working atGrupo Gremvi Galicia S.L, Orense (Spain). He is Industrial Manager of Low voltage cable division and Plastics Pipes division.

    Mr. Lorenzo has participated in the committees of Normalising the Asosiación Española de Normalización y Certicicación (AENOR) and is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineering.

    He started his professional career at Unilever, moving to DSM, where he worked in France (1983-1989), the Netherlands (1989-1993), Spain (1993-1995) and Italy (1995-1998), returning to France in 1998.

    After having left DSM in 2003, he became an independent consultant, focusing on cultural differences in business environments.

    Since 2005, Michel Loubry is PlasticsEurope’s Regional Director for the West Region that encompasses Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. He has also led the association’s efforts on Energy Efficiency and Climate Protection as Programme Director between 2006 and 2011. He is guiding the association’s activities towards Consumer protection since 2013.

    In 2008 Matthias joined BASF SE in Ludwigshafen and had several positions in Marketing and Development for Glues, Impregnating resins and metal injection molding. In 2014 he came back to the “PVC and Plasticiser World” and took over the responsibility for the Technical Marketing of the European BASF plasticiser portfolio.

    Marco Piana graduated in Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, and after attending the Master's degree at Energetics Department of the Politecnico di Torino in energy saving and acoustic sectors.

    Marco has collaborated with the application laboratories of CSI (Montedison Group). Later , he became design responsible for the direction of a manufacturer of food processing plants. Now he is the coordinator of PVC Forum Italia - Centro di Informazione sul PVC.

    He is a member of the UNI, UNIPLAST, CTI Commissions and CEN, as well as of national committees for thermal insulation, acoustic, fire behavior of materials for civil and industrial purposes.

    He is an expert at the Ministry of Transport for isothermal vehicles and systems of foodstuffs transport and at the Ministry of the Interior in the fire behavioral material and fire prevention design.

    He takes part in courses and conferences in Italy and Europe; moreover he writes specialised technical articles and issues for didactic and formative purpose.

    With initially a PhD in Polymers and Macromolecular Chemistry, Philippe Salémis commenced his career as an associated research chemist within the university, then joined the industry initially in R&D and technical services and then management of Research and Development programmes in the specialty chemical industry.

    Being multi-lingual, with at least five languages, he then went to international companies’ management, including merging, new implementation or transfers for the Chemical division of the Total group.

    With his background for chemical business, together with his knowledge of the chemicals sectors, their products and their application markets, Dr. Salémis has since been seconded to the European Chemical Industry Council, CEFIC, firstly to manage consortia for complex Reach Registration and then Sector groups such as PINFA, the Phosphorous, inorganic and nitrogen flame retardants association.

    His current position involves identifying, innovating, promoting and directing the Sector Groups’ efforts to improve international fire safety efforts, whilst cooperating on common technical, regulatory and scientific challenges within the EU and Globally.

    Dr. Gianluca Sarti is currently R&D manager at Titanstuc S.p.A. in Republic of San Marino and he has gained 20 years of experience in the R&D, QMS, EMS, and production of additives for PVC, particularly stabilisers, flame-retardants (FR’s) and smoke suppressants (SS’).

    In the last five years, he has focused his activities on FR’s and SS’ and their impact on the main characteristics of the PVC articles, such as thermal stability, initial color, colour hold, dispersion etc..

    He has a degree in Chemistry from Bologna University (ITA) and he is the coauthor of three papers.

    He lives in San Giovanni in Marignano (ITA), married and with two children.

    Arjen Sevenster graduated in 1971 as chemical engineer at the University of Mulhouse in France and completed a PhD in physical chemistry in 1974. After one year of post-graduate research at the University of Lancaster (UK) he joined the Shell Group in 1975.

    During his 25 years working for Shell, he held various managerial positions in France, the Netherlands, Hong-Kong and Belgium, dealing with chemical technology and production of various petrochemical products, including lubricating oil additives, solvents, higher olefins, detergents, expandable polystyrene and PVC.

    In 2001 he joined the European Council of Vinyl Manufacturers (ECVM) in Brussels. ECVM’s members are six leading European companies producing PVC resin. As Technical and Environmental Affairs Senior Manager, he is in charge of issues related to health, safety and environment. This includes active involvement in VinylPlus, the association managing the sustainability Voluntary Commitment of the PVC Industry. One of the key commitments of VinylPlus is to develop the recycling of PVC. He is also managing the Building and Construction activities of PlasticsEurope, the association of plastic raw materials manufacturers.

    After graduating as industrial engineer at Charleroi (B), Francesco Tarantino joined the Solvay Group and since July 2015, Inovyn “An INEOS company”, where he held various positions (Vinyl Chloride Monomer production, H2O2 and then sodium perborate with an expatriation in Houston (USA).

    He starts his career in recycling PVC in 2002 as a Process Engineer in Ferrara. He took care to optimize this pilot plant classified Seveso 3, an innovative PVC recycling technology which produces a high-level purity PVC compound from low-quality waste.

    Currently he is General Manager of Vinyloop Ferrara S.p.A.

    Francesco has been taking part in the activities of industry associations in the plastics industry in general and the PVC industry in particular, as a member of various bodies, both national and European (PVC Forum Italia, Plastics Recycler Europe, Recovinyl, etc.). He is happy to combine his love for nature and environmental protection and his professional commitment to the development of recycling.
